SpaceX's $60B Cursor deal could close next week — the brand may vanish

August 16, 2026 | Source: t | AI, SpaceX | 100 views 0 comments

SpaceX is set to close its $60 billion acquisition of Cursor as soon as next week, and the AI coding startup's brand may not stick around for long.

Cursor shared the timeline with employees during an internal all-hands meeting, saying the deal is expected to close by the end of the month at the latest. After that, the company won't continue as an independent team — it's being folded into SpaceXAI.

The Cursor brand itself could gradually disappear. Future products may instead carry the Grok name or something else entirely. The in-development general-purpose agent, currently called "Sand", might be renamed "Grok Bot". The existing Cursor programming assistant, however, will keep its name for now.
