SoftBank Group has confirmed it executed the first $10 billion tranche of its $30 billion follow-on investment in OpenAI.
SoftBank previously invested about $34.6 billion in OpenAI through its Vision Fund 2. The new $30 billion commitment, announced in February 2026, is split into three $10 billion installments. OpenAI’s pre-money valuation for this round is $730 billion. Upon completion, SoftBank’s total stake will rise to around $64.6 billion, representing roughly 13% of the company — making it SoftBank’s single largest AI bet.
OpenAI continues to raise massive sums for compute expansion and model development. SoftBank, meanwhile, is using bridge loans and other mechanisms to quickly cash its commitments, chasing the paper gains from the AI boom.
