OpenRouter processes 25 trillion tokens weekly, raises $113M Series B

OpenRouter has closed a $113 million Series B round led by CapitalG, the independent growth fund under Google parent Alphabet, with participation from NVentures, ServiceNow Ventures, MongoDB Ventures, Snowflake Ventures, Databricks Ventures, and existing backers a16z and Menlo Ventures.

OpenRouter is an AI model marketplace and routing platform that gives enterprises a single API to access over 400 models from providers including Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, xAI, and DeepSeek.

The funding is backed by explosive usage growth. The company says its platform now processes 25 trillion tokens per week — roughly 100 trillion monthly — up fivefold from 5 trillion weekly just six months ago. OpenRouter currently serves more than 8 million users globally, from AI-native startups to large enterprises.

What OpenRouter solves is the control problem that emerges when companies move from single-model calls to multi-model orchestration. Different tasks require trade-offs between cost, latency, capability, and data handling policies, and enterprises need unified routing, permissions, spend visibility, and auditable usage reports. The company says the new capital will be used to expand routing, governance, and optimization capabilities.

As model vendors keep competing on price and performance, developers increasingly need a middle layer to compare, switch, and orchestrate models. Whoever commands the real inference traffic gets closer to a pivotal position in enterprise AI procurement and model distribution.
