Third-party estimates from TickerTrends put OpenAI's monthly recurring revenue at around $3.55 billion at the end of July, up about $800 million from the end of May. That translates to an annualized run rate (ARR) of $42.6 billion as of July 29, a roughly 29% increase from $33 billion at the end of May.
OpenAI chairman Bret Taylor acknowledged that the company fell behind Anthropic in the AI coding market earlier this year. He noted that some heavy users of Claude Code, Anthropic's coding tool, have started looking for alternatives like Codex due to high bills.
