The Wall Street Journal reports that OpenAI has raised its compute spending target for 2030 from roughly $600 billion to $750 billion — a 25 percent jump of $150 billion.

The latest project is Project Camellia in Georgia, where OpenAI will take the lead on data center design and construction for the first time. The project is expected to cost around $20 billion, draw 3.2 gigawatts of power, and come online in phases between 2028 and 2032.

OpenAI has also hired Brent Mayo away from xAI to oversee data center construction and delivery. Former xAI infrastructure head Uday Ruddarraju has already joined as OpenAI's compute CTO.

OpenAI is no longer just buying compute from cloud providers — it's becoming a data center developer itself.
