Leaks suggest OpenAI is planning to launch a new flagship model, codenamed GPT-5.6, on June 23. The model will come with a 1.5 million token context window, improvements in agentic coding workflows, and an API price that's just one-third of Anthropic's Claude Fable 5.

The timing is no accident. Anthropic released Claude Fable 5 on June 9, only to have it pulled by the US Commerce Department on June 12 due to a security vulnerability. OpenAI is reportedly aiming to catch the moment when Fable's transition period ends and users are forced onto paid plans.
Prediction markets are betting big on this: the probability of OpenAI shipping GPT-5.6 between June 22 and June 28 has jumped to 78%.
