OpenAI, Anthropic, and 100+ companies warn AI attacks are about to escalate

August 28, 2026 | Source: t | Anthropic, OpenAI | 159 views 0 comments

OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, AWS, and more than 100 other companies have signed an open letter urging the tech industry to strengthen cyber defenses as quickly as possible. Cloudflare, CrowdStrike, Cisco, Visa, and Oracle are also on the list.

The companies argue that in the coming months, AI will make cyberattacks more frequent and significantly harder to defend against. Hospitals, water treatment plants, and internet infrastructure are at particularly high risk. Where attackers used to have to hunt for vulnerabilities and build their own exploit tools, much of that work can now be handed off to AI — and the barrier to launching an attack is dropping fast.

The open letter also offers a few concrete recommendations. Enterprises should patch high-risk vulnerabilities quickly. Security firms should share more threat intelligence. Governments should give critical facilities like hospitals and water utilities more funding and technical support. And AI companies like OpenAI and Anthropic should open up their models, tools, and training to defenders, so security researchers can use AI to find and fix vulnerabilities.
