Dyson is officially entering the oral-care aisle with the CameraJet, a $499.99 electric toothbrush that crams a toothbrush, water flosser, and camera into one gadget. As you brush, the camera automatically finds the gaps between your teeth and fires a jet of mouthwash to rinse them out.
The brush head contains a 100,000-pixel macro camera that churns through 28 frames per second. Dyson trained its machine-learning system on 470,000 dental images, and when it spots a gap, it triggers a jet stream in 100 milliseconds. The camera can also stream a live view of your mouth to the MyDyson app — but Dyson says the footage isn’t recorded or stored on the device or in the cloud.
To keep toothpaste foam from ruining the camera’s view, Dyson developed its own foam-free toothpaste and low-foam mouthwash. The charging base refills the brush’s 12.5ml mouthwash tank in three seconds. The CameraJet was six years in the making, involved 661 engineers, and — according to Dyson — runs on 16 million lines of code.
