Tencent wants WorkBuddy to be the operating system for AI agents

Tencent's WorkBuddy open platform is officially live, and the company is now opening its agent capabilities to hardware makers, industry app builders, and developers. The initial rollout covers five types of capabilities: Buddy apps, expert agents, Skills, connectors, and hardware. More than 100 partners have already signed on.

Hardware is the most visible change in this release. The launch batch includes nine co-branded smart devices with partners like Plaud, Rokid, Insta360, iFLYTEK, Anker, MOMA, and JD.com's in-house label. In a Rokid AI glasses demo, the two companies show off use cases such as organizing data, tracking market moves, looking up information, and drafting weekly reports. The glasses aren't just a chat window; they're an entry point for WorkBuddy tasks.

Beyond hardware, 30-plus industry applications have connected across 20-plus sectors, covering finance, law, healthcare, education, and public-interest work. Tencent launched its Buddy AI ecosystem co-creation program back in June with just 23 partners. Now that the platform has fully opened, that roster has grown to more than 100.

Liu Yi, Tencent Cloud's VP and the lead behind CodeBuddy and WorkBuddy, says the goal is to make WorkBuddy "the operating system of the Agent era."
