DeepSeek senior researcher Chen Dali confirmed on social media that the company is internally building a new Harness team to directly compete with Anthropic's Claude Code, with a focus on developing "DeepSeek Code Harness."
Job postings on DeepSeek's official careers page show the company is hiring for two key roles in Haidian District, Beijing: a Harness product manager and a development engineer. The listing explicitly states that new hires will join the full development cycle of DeepSeek's desktop agent product.
The job description defines the core equation as "Model + Harness = Agent." DeepSeek is grouping all the non-model engineering tasks — context management, tool calling, file I/O, terminal execution, and test feedback — under the Harness umbrella.
The developer community had already created an open-source terminal project, DeepSeek-TUI, as an alternative to Claude Code. Now, by building an official Harness team, DeepSeek is taking back control of the terminal interface, aiming to feed real-world code test results directly into the model's improvement loop.
