Former TSY Capital co-founder Cui Tianyi — who spent nine years at Wall Street quant giant Jane Street — has joined DeepSeek as of March to lead its newly formed Harness team. His mission: build a desktop agent product that goes head-to-head with Anthropic's Claude Code.
Cui was an ACM ICPC Asia regional gold medalist six times during undergrad. His previous startup, TSY Capital, boasted a development team averaging about five ACM-level gold medals per person.
Inside DeepSeek, the core product strategy is defined as "Model + Harness = Agent." Harness encompasses all engineering actions outside the model itself: context management, tool calling, file reading and writing, terminal execution, and test feedback. The open-source community had already produced a terminal project called DeepSeek-TUI. Now, with an official team, DeepSeek aims to reclaim control of the terminal interface and feed real-world engineering trial-and-error traces back into the model's improvement loop.
