Claude Code leak hints at Fable 5 return with weekly quota system

Leaker @synthwavedd has been poking around the latest version of Anthropic's command-line AI assistant, Claude Code (v2.1.190), and found some telling status messages buried in the code. The big reveal? The strongest frontier model, Claude Fable 5, appears to be gearing up for a comeback — but with a twist.

Unlike the previous v2.1.186 build, which treated Fable 5 as a separate purchase using standalone "usage credits," the new code strips out any mention of limited-time inclusion and instead introduces a weekly allotment model. When you hit the cap, the client now tells you: "This week's included Fable 5 usage has been used up," and directs you to run /usage-credits if you want more.

Fable 5 had a very brief life. It launched in early June as part of Anthropic's "Mythos-class" of frontier models, only to be yanked globally shortly afterward due to U.S. government export controls and national security concerns. The code changes in Claude Code suggest Anthropic is quietly preparing the infrastructure — tying access to subscriptions and weekly limits — so it can flip the switch as soon as policy or export approvals come through. A top-tier reasoning model ready to resume duty, if the feds allow it.
