Indeed’s Hiring Lab has spotted something interesting: since Anthropic dropped Claude Code in February 2025, software development job postings in the US have jumped nearly 15%. Over the same period, overall job postings on Indeed fell 7%.
The growth is concentrated in senior and AI-specific roles. Between May 2025 and May 2026, 71% of new listings were for senior positions, and 37% mentioned AI in the title.
That doesn’t mean Claude Code caused the hiring spree. Indeed is careful to note the two things happened at the same time — correlation is not causation. And even with the bounce, software development postings are still 27.5% lower than they were in February 2020.
What this looks like is a shift in demand. Companies are looking for experienced developers who can work alongside AI tools. Junior roles may not be getting the same boost.
