Claude Science, Anthropic's dedicated AI workstation for researchers, is getting its first real-world workout. On July 7, 2026, the company is launching a global online hackathon called Built with Claude: Life Sciences, in partnership with San Francisco's Gladstone Institutes and Cerebral Valley. Applications close on July 5, and the week-long event targets researchers, clinicians, bioinformaticians, and biotech developers.

The hackathon features two tracks. The "Lab Track" asks participants to use Claude Science to tackle specific biology problems, submitting reproducible analyses or trained models. Gladstone and other labs are opening up unique real-world datasets — including immune T-cell sequencing, DNA regulatory activity predictions, and protein interaction networks. The "Dev Track" challenges participants to use Claude Code to build practical software tools for researchers, clinics, or biotech companies.
Organizers will select 500 applicants to participate, each receiving a one-month Claude Max 20x subscription and $200 in API credits. Winning teams will split a total of $100,000 in API and usage credits.
