Alibaba's HappyHorse 1.1 video model targets short dramas with nine-image reference

Alibaba just dropped HappyHorse 1.1, an upgraded version of its video generation model, now live on Alibaba Cloud's Bailian, Qwen, and other platforms. Compared to the original, the new model tackles issues like dynamic instability, subject drift, and inconsistent textures, boasting better instruction following, frame stability, and overall quality.

The big new trick? Up to nine reference images can be fed in to lock down characters, products, or scenes, making video outputs far more consistent. That's a clear play for short dramas, e-commerce, and ads — anything where you need a stable cast or product look. The model is also accessible via API on Bailian and some third-party services, churning out 1080p video with synchronized audio and lip-sync.

And to kick off the fun, Alibaba launched the HorsePower AI Cinema Awards and dropped a co-created short film called Are You Happy — a showcase of what the community can do with the tool.
