Tom Blomfield Steps Away from YC to Help Anthropic Solve Its Compute Problem

YC partner and Monzo co-founder Tom Blomfield is temporarily leaving Y Combinator to join Anthropic, where he'll work alongside co-founder Tom Brown on compute-related efforts.

The team is responsible for securing the chips, cloud services, and data center capacity needed to train and run AI models. According to Blomfield, AI is entering the early stages of recursive self-improvement, and compute supply is becoming one of the most critical issues.

For now, Blomfield is on leave from YC — he hasn't announced a formal exit, so don't count him out just yet.
