Pi's GitHub repository just crossed 100,000 stars, and the team is already teasing Pi v2. Pi is an open-source agent harness that also provides a terminal coding agent.
For the past month or so, Pi has been rewriting the lowest-level agent runtime framework. In late July, the team introduced Harness v2, which focuses on task persistence, crash recovery, and multiple execution lanes. In early August, that design had just entered the official API — and the team quickly moved on to Harness v3, reworking storage and execution state from scratch. v3 has since been folded into a unified harness.md.
The goal of the new Harness is to let an agent resume from its last safe state even if the process dies mid-run, and to allow multiple agent tasks to run in parallel on the same conversation history. The dev branch currently has hundreds of commits not yet in main, so the new Harness is still moving fast.
