John Jumper, a Nobel Prize-winning scientist and vice president at Google DeepMind, is leaving the company to join Anthropic. Jumper spent nearly nine years at DeepMind, where he led the development of AlphaFold — the AI system that predicts protein structures — and shared the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with CEO Demis Hassabis.
His departure comes just one day after Noam Shazeer, a former co-leader of Google's Gemini project and co-author of the landmark "Attention Is All You Need" paper, also left the company.
