Musk says new 1.5T-parameter Grok model will launch in 3-4 weeks

After admitting data deficiencies in the current model, Elon Musk followed up on X with a timeline for the next generation. He announced that a 1.5 trillion parameter base model — internal version 9 — has completed training and will launch within 3 to 4 weeks. Musk promised the new version will deliver a “banger” experience.

To fix the data shortcomings, the model will next enter a “supplementary training” phase, absorbing large amounts of code data from Cursor. After this foundational knowledge is infused, the model will be polished through supervised fine-tuning (SFT) and reinforcement learning (RL).
