Jeff Bezos's AI lab, Project Prometheus, is closing in on a massive new funding round that would value the company at around $38 billion, according to a report from the Financial Times.
Citing people familiar with the matter, the FT says the round is expected to raise roughly $10 billion, with JPMorgan and BlackRock participating. The deal isn't finalized yet, but it signals a huge bet on a very specific kind of AI.
Project Prometheus isn't building another general-purpose chatbot. Its focus is on AI that can understand the physical world. The goal is to integrate these models into engineering, design, and manufacturing workflows.
As Axios reported last month, the company is initially targeting areas like prototyping, materials science, and early-stage engineering—not aiming to replace factory workers with robots outright. This approach mirrors the broader industry trend where massive capital is required to compete, as seen with other AI giants like Anthropic, which is reportedly being courted at valuations north of $800 billion.
