Gwyneth Paltrow, best known as Pepper Potts in Iron Man, is throwing a private dinner for OpenAI CEO Sam Altman at her Hamptons estate. The food hasn't even been served, but the invite is already getting roasted online.
The reason? This dinner has elite flavor written all over it. The Hamptons is where New York's rich and famous pile up for the summer, and Paltrow runs Goop, a high-end lifestyle brand that's long been mocked for being utterly out of touch. Now she's hosting Altman at her mansion, and the invitation explicitly notes it's a closed-door dinner — what's said at the table stays at the table.
Puck reporter Matthew Belloni, who first surfaced the invite, didn't exactly hide his eye roll: summering in the Hamptons now apparently also means “sucking up to our new AI overlord.” The internet's read is basically the same. Regular people are worried about AI taking jobs, copyright, and tech giants having too much power — meanwhile, celebrities and billionaires are pulling up a chair for Altman behind closed doors.
Paltrow isn't apologizing, though. She turned the original invite into a meme, swapping Altman out for Shrek, M3GAN (the killer AI doll), and Jessica Rabbit. She also announced the dinner menu would feature “swordfish tacos” and “cheddar cheese foam latte.”
The dinner is scheduled for August 29. The courses haven't been served, but the memes are already over capacity.
