xAI's large language model Grok is quietly testing a new user memory feature. Based on a test page, the feature automatically records key personal information mentioned in conversations and builds a structured user profile. Users can view and edit the memory file Grok keeps on them, giving the AI persistent context for more fluid interactions.

In leaked screenshots, Grok's automatically generated profiles include fields like social accounts, hardware specs, occupation, and subscription tier. It can even deduce a user's Discord community admin status and GitHub open-source project details from chat history. The mechanism is similar to OpenAI's ChatGPT memory feature, but Grok's version organizes the data more granularly, using a list format to categorize personal background and tech stack.
xAI hasn't announced an official launch date or rollout plan for the memory feature yet.
