Former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever isn't one to broadcast his next act. But one blogger has been piecing together what his secretive startup, SSI, is working on — and the picture suggests an AI that keeps learning after deployment, rather than freezing the moment training ends.
The clues come mostly from Sutskever himself. He's said repeatedly that today's models fall short because their ability to generalize is far weaker than a human's. The AI he envisions would be less like a finished product and more like "a super intelligent 15-year-old" who can enter any industry, get a little experience, and quickly pick up the job.
The Wall Street Journal reports that SSI is looking into "neglected parts" of how the human brain operates. Nvidia, after getting a look at the confidential research, decided to invest and help.
