Google is shaking up its AI leadership. DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis is stepping down to become Alphabet's chief scientist, where he'll focus on long-term AI research across the company. He'll also stay on as chairman of Google DeepMind and continue to lead Isomorphic Labs, the AI drug discovery company.
Koray Kavukcuoglu, DeepMind's CTO, will take over the team's day-to-day operations. Jeff Dean, meanwhile, is leaving Google to start a new venture. Google has not yet announced a successor for Hassabis as CEO.
