Web analytics firm Similarweb released year-over-year data for the Claude app in April: global monthly active users (MAU) surged from 11.31 million a year ago to 85.79 million, a 658% increase; app store downloads jumped from 920,000 to 22.3 million, up 2321%. The data covers both Android and iPhone globally.

The bulk of the growth came in recent months. Since the start of the year, Anthropic has been rolling out new features like Claude Cowork, and in late February, it publicly refused a Pentagon ultimatum to drop two red lines — mass surveillance and autonomous weapons. Shortly after, Claude topped the App Store free charts in multiple countries.
