Bloomberg's AI chatbot is about to replace the Terminal

Bloomberg is testing a chatbot-style interface called ASKB that it plans to eventually replace the traditional Bloomberg Terminal. Based on multiple language models, ASKB lets users ask investment questions in natural language — like "How would Iran war and oil price changes affect my portfolio?" — and get a multi-dimensional analysis within minutes. The beta is already open to about a third of all terminal users, roughly 125,000 people.

Bloomberg CTO Shawn Edwards told Wired: "This will be the new terminal. The primary way most interactions happen." He says the graphical interface won't disappear, but analysis and workflows will start with ASKB. The platform supports creating workflow templates with scheduled or conditional triggers — for example, during earnings season it can automatically pull competitor comparisons, fundamentals, and Wall Street expectations for a target company, then generate a long/short summary.

Edwards acknowledges the system "will never be perfect," but stresses that Bloomberg never gives buy or sell signals — users always make their own decisions. On the hallucination front, Bloomberg has added verification at every step: fact-checking summaries against original paragraphs, semantic reversal detection, and citation link checks. When asked whether "vibe coding" — the trend of casually prompting AI to build apps — could replace the Bloomberg Terminal, Edwards shot back: "You wouldn't use vibe coding for critical decision systems." This echoes a sentiment shared by Linear CEO Karri Saarinen, who argues that AI coding agents add bandwidth rather than replacing engineers.
