Anthropic sues Abnormal AI over logo, company says design predates Claude

Anthropic has filed a trademark lawsuit against Abnormal AI, an enterprise email and identity security company. Abnormal's CEO Evan Reiser publicly responded, denying that the company copied Anthropic's branding or misled customers.

Court records show Anthropic sued Abnormal in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, alleging trademark infringement, unfair competition, and false designation of origin.

Reiser claims Abnormal was founded in 2018, three years before Anthropic. The company's current slash-style wordmark was designed by design firm ALINE in April 2021 and has been in use for about five years, predating Claude's appearance.

In Abnormal's view, Anthropic doesn't have a registered trademark covering its cybersecurity products, nor can it monopolize all AI-related "A/slash" visual designs.
