Anthropic has hit pause on a planned change to how developers pay for Claude. In an email to subscribers, the company said it is delaying a policy that was set to take effect today.
Originally announced in May, the change would have meant that starting June 15, usage of the Claude Agent SDK, the claude -p command-line tool, and third-party apps built on the SDK would no longer count against the web subscription's rate limits. Instead, those calls would draw from a fixed monthly credit pool—Pro subscribers, for example, would get $20 per month, with overage billed at API rates.
In the notice, Anthropic said the delay is intended to give the company more time to refine the pricing model so it better serves developers building applications on top of Claude subscriptions. During the extension, all calls made through the SDK or command line will continue to follow the existing web subscription rules, and no extra credits need to be claimed. Current subscription limits remain unchanged, and Anthropic says it will give advance notice before any future credit adjustments take effect.
