Anthropic is weighing a new funding round that would value the company at over $900 billion. If it goes through, that would vault the AI startup past OpenAI, which closed a $852 billion round in March, making Anthropic the most valuable AI company in the world.
Multiple sources say investors have already offered to buy in at more than double Anthropic's current valuation. Talks are extremely early, and Anthropic hasn't accepted any offers yet. The company has previously turned down multiple proposals at $800 billion and above.
Right now, Anthropic is valued at $350 billion, anchored by two major investments from Google and Amazon. Google recently committed $10 billion at that valuation, with another $30 billion tied to hitting certain performance targets. Amazon put in $5 billion at the same price, planning to add $20 billion later. It's unclear whether either will participate in the new round. Anthropic is also considering an IPO as early as October.
The news comes as investors pour billions into AI startups, triggering a startup gold rush in the sector.
