After weeks of back-channel negotiations, the Trump administration is close to lifting export restrictions on two of Anthropic's most advanced AI models. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has reportedly concluded that the security concerns around Fable 5 and Mythos 5 have been sufficiently addressed, paving the way for their release abroad. The deal was spearheaded by Anthropic co-founder Tom Brown, who has held multiple meetings with Lutnick and other top officials. The administration has made clear that the ban will be removed as long as model safety can be guaranteed. Notably, CEO Dario Amodei has kept his distance from the talks, presumably to avoid adding friction to the process.
