Alibaba has officially launched HappyShrimp 1.0, an AI music model whose Chinese name, 快乐虾米 (Kuaile Xiami), literally means "Happy Shrimp." Just describe an emotion, a story, or a musical idea, and the model writes the lyrics, composition, arrangement, and vocals — producing a complete song.
HappyShrimp is built around natural language understanding, so you don't need to master a pile of music tags. Enter "for the me who just graduated" or "a song for a coffee shop," and the model decides the genre, instrumentation, vocals, and song structure on its own. More complex prompts can also control BPM, key, instruments, vocal gender, singing style, and emotional progression.
The model uses end-to-end whole-song generation. Lyrics, melody, arrangement, and vocals aren't generated separately and stitched together; instead, it plans the entire song as a single unit, targeting common AI music issues like robotic vocals, mismatched lyrics and melody, and loose structure.
Alibaba also launched a music platform under the same name, HappyShrimp. Beyond generating tracks, users can publish, listen to, and share AI-generated songs from others. The web app is already open in China and abroad, while the standalone app is still in the works.
HappyShrimp's debut also brings a partnership with Taihe Music Group, and new users can grab free credits to try it out.
