Anthropic confirmed in the official announcement for its latest flagship model, Claude Opus 4.8, that its research team has achieved a breakthrough in safety defenses and assurance mechanisms. The company expects to roll out its next-generation Mythos-class model — with super-flagship intelligence — to all customers within the next few weeks.
Back in May 22nd's Glasswing software security project report, Anthropic's researchers emphasized that they wouldn't release the Mythos-level model to the public until they developed stronger safety guarantees.
As a frontier model capable of end-to-end penetration of test ranges and other advanced cybersecurity feats, the Mythos-class model has long been held back by a severe attack-defense time gap: it can find vulnerabilities in seconds, but patching them takes weeks. To prevent misuse and potential harm, the Anthropic team is now accelerating development of stronger safety mechanisms. At the same time, the company has started providing qualified security teams with tools like a scan orchestration suite to help defenders build asymmetric advantages.
