Tencent’s Hy Translation packs 9 tone presets to fix AI’s awkward phrasing

Tencent's Hunyuan team is rolling out a lightweight AI translation product called Hy Translation. It's powered by the company's in-house Hy-MT2 model and goes beyond the usual auto-detect and language switching — it comes with style presets and personalization.

The style preset feature includes nine templates covering academic papers, legal contracts, everyday conversation, and business news. Each one tunes the translation's tone and terminology for that specific context, sidestepping the awkwardness and wrong jargon that plague generic machine translation. The personalization module lets you set custom rules, such as keeping specific acronyms or brand names untranslated, and quickly flip between social media style and natural, idiomatic translation.

On the technical side, Hy-MT2 is optimized for high-frequency scenarios like cross-border communication and work/study, with expanded domain-specific terminology to improve accuracy. The whole approach shifts the focus from word-for-word equivalence to context-aware adaptation.
