The open-source AI assistant OpenClaw just shipped version 2026.4.27, and two features stand out: Codex Computer Use and built-in DeepInfra support.
The update follows closely on the heels of v2026.4.26, which added Claude Code migration and QQ group chat support.
Codex Computer Use gives OpenClaw's Codex mode agent the ability to control a desktop — mouse, keyboard, and screen. New commands like /codex computer-use status/install and marketplace auto-discovery have been added, and the system now checks MCP server availability before entering Codex mode — if the check fails, it refuses to start. The feature was contributed by OpenAI employee @pash-openai, and it arrives as OpenAI recently folded its standalone Codex model into GPT-5.4.
DeepInfra joins as a built-in provider: plug in an API key and you're set. It supports OpenAI-compatible model auto-discovery, image generation and editing, TTS, and embeddings — no more manual endpoint configuration.
Under the hood, many model provider catalogs (DeepSeek, Mistral, NVIDIA, Cerebras, etc.) have migrated from runtime dynamic scanning to static manifest declarations, and plugin startup now uses explicit activation.onStartup instead of implicit full loading. The result: faster gateway startup and cleaner plugin auditing. The Docker sandbox gets a GPU passthrough option, and enterprise deployments now support outbound HTTP proxy routing. Over 100 bugs have been fixed, covering stability on Telegram, Slack, Feishu, Discord, and other major channels.
