DeepSeek job screening reportedly rejects top undergrads, passes one-year master's
A viral post on Xiaohongshu (China's Instagram-like platform) claims that DeepSeek's initial resume screening is outright rejecting applicants with overseas bachelor's degrees — even those from QS top 50 universities — while one-year master's degrees are sailing through.
The poster says they themselves made it to the offer stage last year. This year, they reapplied under a pseudonym, adding experience working on state-of-the-art model development and contributions to the open-source framework verl. Still, their resume was immediately shot down.
They complain that this hard filter — a clear "inversion" of normal expectations — completely ignores a candidate's open-source contributions and real engineering ability.
Of course, this is just one person's claim on social media. DeepSeek hasn't commented on the rumor yet.
