Apple's chief executive is about to change. The company announced that John Ternus, currently its senior vice president of hardware engineering, will take over as CEO on September 1. Tim Cook will move to executive chairman the same day.
The board approved the succession plan on April 17. Cook will remain CEO through the transition, officially handing over on September 1.
Ternus, 50, has served as Apple's senior vice president of hardware engineering, and joined the company in 2001 as a mechanical engineer. He's since overseen development of the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, AirPods, and Vision Pro.
