Anthropic and Amazon are doubling down on their AI partnership, announcing a massive expansion that commits over $100 billion to AWS technology over the next decade. The deal secures up to 5 gigawatts of new compute capacity—yes, gigawatts—to train and run Claude, as the AI startup scrambles to keep up with explosive demand.
CEO Dario Amodei didn't sugarcoat the reason for the urgent power grab. In the announcement, he directly acknowledged that growth in consumer products has led to reliability and performance issues for free, Pro, Max, and Team users during peak times. The new compute capacity is, first and foremost, about "digesting this demand."

The $330 Billion Bet
The commitment covers Amazon's Graviton CPUs and its Trainium2 through Trainium4 series of AI chips, with options to purchase future generations of Amazon's custom silicon. Amazon is also injecting another $5 billion into Anthropic, with the potential to add up to $20 billion more. Combined with the $8 billion already invested, the total partnership now stands at $13 billion, with a potential ceiling of a staggering $33 billion.
The Compute Timeline
Anthropic laid out a clear timeline for getting this power online. The first batch of Trainium2 capacity will come online in the first half of 2026. By the end of that year, a combined capacity of Trainium2 and Trainium3 chips nearing 1 GW will be operational, with the remaining capacity delivered afterward.
The company says it's already using over one million Trainium2 chips to train and serve Claude, primarily through Project Rainier, a cluster built in partnership with Amazon. Anthropic also revealed it now has over 100,000 customers calling Claude on Amazon's Bedrock platform.
Claude Moves In With AWS
The new agreement also deeply integrates the Claude Platform directly into AWS. Customers can now access it with the same AWS account, permissions, and billing—no separate contract with Anthropic or independent credentials required. This move solidifies Claude's unique position as the only leading-edge model available across all three major cloud platforms: AWS Bedrock, Google Cloud Vertex AI, and Microsoft Azure Foundry.
The Revenue Rocket
Alongside the infrastructure news, Anthropic dropped a jaw-dropping revenue figure. Its annualized run-rate revenue—a projection based on recent performance—has now surpassed $30 billion. For context, that number was only about $9 billion at the end of 2025.
This marks Anthropic's second major compute expansion announcement in recent weeks, following a separate power deal it signed with Google and Broadcom.
