Agentic AI Is Here, Says Jensen Huang — and GitHub Commits Have Tripled

Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang took the stage at GTC Taipei 2026 to declare: "Agentic AI has arrived. Practical AI has arrived."

Huang's proof point? GitHub code commit data. Global commits hit 300 million in 2023, 400 million in 2024, and 500 million in 2025 — but in just the first few months of 2026, the tally is already nearly three times what it was at the same point last year.

He broke down the economics: there are roughly 30 to 40 million professional software developers worldwide, earning a combined $3 trillion annually, and they power an estimated $100 trillion global economy. A threefold increase in output means these developers are generating about $9 trillion in productivity from that $3 trillion salary pool.

As for the "AI will take our jobs" narrative? Huang called it "complete nonsense." He pointed out that software engineering headcount is actually growing — because when one engineer's output doubles, it makes more sense to hire more of them. "If the output curve is flat, companies pull back on hiring. But when it's this steep, they only want more people."
