Nvidia's H200 chips have landed in China — in barely traceable numbers

July 16, 2026 | Source: bloomberg | AI, NVIDIA | 129 views 0 comments

A top US export official has confirmed that a small number of Nvidia H200 GPUs have been licensed and shipped to China. The chips started moving after the US gave the green light in December.

Commerce Department undersecretary Jeffrey Kessler declined to say how many chips went or who bought them. He called the volume "trivial." Each license requires verification of the buyer, end use, and performance specs, with a strict ban on military, nuclear, missile, or biological weapons applications.

The US may have opened the door for H200 exports to China, but so far deliveries are barely symbolic. A long way from any kind of volume sales.
