Nvidia's $12.9303 billion price for Hugging Face wasn't arbitrary. Hugging Face co-founder Thomas Wolf flagged after the deal was announced that 12,930,300,000 conceals two Easter eggs, one for Hugging Face and one for Nvidia — and Nvidia's official announcement spelled the amount out down to the trailing $300,000.
The first Easter egg was cracked almost immediately. 129303 is the decimal representation of Unicode code point U+1F917, which maps to the 🤗 emoji — the one officially named Hugging Face.
The second one took people a bit longer. Some split the number into 12, 93, and 03 as an Nvidia origin story: a $12 IPO price, a founding year of 1993, and three founders. Hugging Face CEO Clément Delangue later offered another clue: written as #129303, the same digits form a deep green that's close to Nvidia's signature color.
Nvidia's official brand green is #76B900, not exactly #129303 — so it's more of a green nod than a precise brand match. Delangue also added that the pricing approach shows the number was never the thing either side cared about most.
